Guitarist and sound engineer, Ermanno Brignolo started to play the guitar in his childhood. After graduating with honors in 2003 in Italy, he continued his studies with Angelo Gilardino and Christina Saggese.

Throughout his career, Ermanno Brignolo has been regularly performing in Europe and Australia; his repertoire has focused on accurate selecitons of historical masterpieces as well as lesser known works, with particular attention to the works written in the 20th and 21st centuries. Among many others, Ermanno has played for prestigious institutions such as Associazione Musicare, Accademia internazionale della Chitarra di Brescia, Claxica international guitar festival and competition, Festival internazionale della chitarra di Lagonegro, Sydney Classical Guitar Society, Classical Guitar society of Victoria, Canberra Classical Guitar Society, Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Sydney.

Musical critics, composers and fellows musicians have given enthusiastic opinions about Ermanno Brignolo’s musicianship, his original approach to the repertoire and his meticulous rendition of the musical texts.

Prolific also as recording artist, his most significant records are:

  • The Andrés Segovia Archive, 7 CD box distributed by Brilliant Classics and featuring the world premiere recording of the whole homonymous collection of music edited by Angelo Gilardino and published by Edizioni Musicali Bèrben.
  • Platero y yo, with the actress Minie Minarelli. Digitally distributed by dotGuitar, this record contains the recording of the whole melologue Platero y yo composed by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, acted both in English and Italian.
  • Cahier des chansons anciennes n. 2, digitally distributed by dotGuitar, the record contains the world premiere recording of the twelve pieces cycle written by the Italian composer Alfredo Franco and dedicated to Ermanno Brignolo.

It is worth mentioning some of the comments referred to The Andrés Segovia Archive, defined by critics and musicians as “a milestone of the guitar discography” and “one of the best records in the last thirty years”.

An important part of Ermanno Brignolo’s musical activity is teching. Ermanno held courses, seminars, concert lessons and masterclasses for many relevant societies such as Accademia di Alto Perfezionamento Astigiana, Casimir Catholic College, Associazione musicale Roma Castelli, Sydney Classical Guitar Society, Dante Alighieri Society of Sydney, Accademia internazionale della chitarra di Brescia.

Ermanno Brignolo is musical critic for the Italian guitar magazine ‘Seicorde’ and member if the scientific committee of the Alessandria International Guitar Convention.

Aside of music, Ermanno has a Bachelor’s degree of Engineering obtained in full marks at the Turin Polytechnic.

What’s On This Month

Our next monthly meeting will be held on Saturday 3rd March 2018 at 2pm – at our regular venue – Crows Nest Uniting Church Hall,cnr Shirley Rd and Nicholson St, Wollstonecraft. There will be a playing list so please bring your guitar and your best-prepared work.  Please try to keep performances down to 5 minutes as a courtesy to others and so that everybody gets a go.
