The course will develop sight-reading and aural skills in a fun and stimulating environment. It is approximately 3 hours a day on four consecutive days.

Minimum Level:
Reading music notation in the first position of the guitar fretboard.

The first session of each day will be chamber music. Players will work together on ensemble skills including balancing accompaniment lines against the melody, cueing, effective use of dynamics and rhythmic skills. This ensemble will perform at the Summer School Finale concert.

Participants are encouraged to bring a solo guitar piece to the summer school. They will have the opportunity to play in an open lesson for one of the summer school tutors.

Thirty-minute sessions will use rounds, layering of parts, improvisation using 4 note pentatonic scales and rhythm games to develop aural perception and expand knowledge of the fretboard.

Guitarists should bring their own instrument and foot stand. Music stands will be provided.

The 2017 Junior Guitar Summer School brochure will be published in July 2016.
