Having run for more than 25 years, the Classical Guitar Society Summer School has established itself as one of the major educational music festivals in Australasia. The annual Summer School retains the popular mix of lectures, open lessons, ensembles and workshops, which are designed for guitarists of different levels. Some of these are run simultaneously, so participants may attend the classes best suited to their stage of study and interest. With graded classes, the 5-day Summer School is suitable for:
- Amateur guitarists from grade 3 upwards.
- School and Tertiary music students.
- Professional teachers wishing to ‘in-service’ their skills and meet other professional teachers and performers.
- Observers interested in music and guitar.
- Day visitors welcome $30 per day
ENSEMBLES
Each morning work with a tutor on chamber music, in small graded groups, developing your sight-reading, ensemble skills and musicianship.
GUITAR ORCHESTRA
Every afternoon gain experience under the baton of a professional conductor.
OPEN LESSONS
are aimed at players of all levels, encouraging them to develop solo repertoire and performance skills. Observers are welcome.
WORKSHOPS
Hands-on classes for all participants – the student repertoire, rhythm, sight reading, practice routines and standard guitar techniques.
LECTURES & WORKSHOPS
will address important guitar issues such as repertoire choice, the new AMEB syllabus, composition and harmony, musical style, guitar maintenance, Australian compositions, technique and tone production.
SUMMER SCHOOL CONCERTS
There will be optional concerts during the summer school.

Matinee Concerts
50 minutes recitals by leading soloists or ensembles. Free admission for Summer School participants.
Details of other activities, such as the open playing session will appear on the website.
Finale Performance
A free public concert of chamber music featuring all the participants and tutors. Music includes guitar orchestra works by internationally recognised guitar composers.
SOCIAL EVENING
Summer School participants and friends are invited to a social evening and meal.
