Our Next Concert
Jack Hancher in recital
The first of two concerts to celebrate our 35th anniversary features British guitarist, Jack Hancher.
Described by Gramophone Magazine as a guitarist with “youthful intensity tempered by sophisticated musical intelligence”, Jack Hancher is a distinctive voice on the classical guitar. In 2022, he won the Gold Medal of the Royal Overseas League Competition at London’s Wigmore Hall, becoming only the third guitarist to receive the award.
His debut album, "The Memory Garden" (Deux-Elles, 2024), received critical acclaim, with BBC Record Review praising its “clean, clear, well focused and compelling playing” and MusicWeb International naming it among its Best Recordings of 2024. Jack has performed across America and Europe, including with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra under Christian Karlsen.
2026 highlights include a first tour of Australia, a debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the release of Jack's second album. This programme ranges from Bach’s BWV 1002 and Malcolm Arnold’s Fantasy for Guitar to Laura Snowden’s The Memory Garden, French and Spanish miniatures by Debussy, Falla, Ravel, Mompou and Albéniz, and Antonio José’s Sonata for Guitar. Jack has given masterclasses at leading European conservatoire and is an Augustine Strings Artist.
