Monthly meetings are the society’s core activity, where we get together to play, listen and learn.
When do we hold monthly meetings?
Monthly meetings take place on the first Saturday of each month, except January when we hold our Summer School.
Who can come?
Anyone can attend: we welcome visitors and first time attendees who want to find out more about the society.
Where are meetings held?
Meetings are held in the upstairs room of the church hall at Crows Nest Uniting Church, 122 Shirley Road, Wollstonecraft. There is a lift if you need it.
There is on street parking around the church.
Public transport: The church is a short walk from Crows Nest Metro station, and a slightly longer one from St Leonards rail station.
There are regular bus services nearby, running on Pacific Highway (look for the stop Pacific Highway after Shirley Rd northbound and Pacific Highway before Falcon Street southbound).
What happens at a monthly meeting?
The main element of meetings is the monthly playlist.
To play, just sign up on the whiteboard. Please bring a well-prepared piece to play. If the meeting is busy, we ask that contributions be short, around five minutes. If you are a member preparing for an exam, competition, or want to play a long work, please contact us in advance using the contact form.
At some meetings we may have a presentation - a talk, guest presenter, member spotlight, or performance. These will be noted on the home page for the website, and members will be notified through our email list.
There will always be a short break for refreshments and socialising.
For members, the library will be open during the meeting to borrow and return items.
Two of our meetings have a set format:
In September, we hold our Annual General Meeting from 2pm, with a break before the playlist begins. The AGM typically takes around an hour.
In December, we hold our end of year party. Bring finger food. The playlist still operates, and we end with some ensemble playing of Christmas carols and seasonal tunes.
